Katy Perry's appearance on Sesame Street was canceled because her cleavage was too sexy.

The pop beauty was recently filmed appearing on the long-running children's show singing her song “Hot N' Cold” alongside Elmo the puppet, who was wearing a plunging dress.

When footage of the performance was posted to YouTube this week, it sparked a flood of complaints from parents who were concerned her costume was too revealing, forcing organisers to cancel her scene.

Comments on the video-sharing website included: “It's a great kids' show” and “They should rename it 'Valley Alley'.”

Following pressure from parents, the show released a statement confirming that the footage would not be shown on screen.

The statement reads: “Sesame Street has always been written for two levels: kids and adults. We know that kids learn best when watching with a parent or guardian, so we use parody and celebrity segments to appeal to adults as well, and we value our audience's opinion, especially parents.”

“After considering the feedback received regarding the Katy Perry music video, which was only available on YouTube, we have decided not to air this segment on broadcast television. Sesame streetis aimed at preschoolers. Katy Perry fans can still watch the video on YouTube.”
